Maybe you had a wood delivery, or set up a swing set on a cold day, whatever the reason, you had a vehicle on your lawn in the cold weather and now you have what looks like permanent tire tracks in your lawn. What causes this? Is it permanent? What can be done?
The cause is frozen grass blades have been broken and crumbled under the weight of the tires. Usually the grass will withstand the weight as it is pliable when warm and actively growing; not so when its frozen, it just breaks and shatters like an icycle. The damage will grow out when the lawn tillers up and flushes out new growth in the spring. But until then you will have to live with the unsightly tracks. Fertilization and keeping off of the damaged areas is all that can be done to correct this. In extreme cases aeration and fill dirt with new seed may be needed, but only if ruts are present. So if you have to drive on the lawn do so under the advisement that someone may very easily be able to track where you've been, like the boss of the house :)
